ImageNation Soul Train Tribute

Summer may be coming to a close, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t events worthwhile. If you are in the New York City area, I would recommend checking out ImageNation’s Outdoor Film Festival on Saturday, August 12, in Harlem’s Marcus Garvey Park. This day will include a Soul Train Tribute by various artist which include: Abiah, Asa Lovechild, Keith Anthony Fluitt and additional musical selections from Sunday Sermon’s Stormin Normin. Thenceforth, there will be a screening of two award winning films. The first film that will be displayed is 90 Days, a short film directed by Jennia Fredrique and Nathan Hale Williamsdevoted to educating the Black community about HIV/AIDS via a love story of a young couple. The film also received the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Diaspora Short Film.

In addition to 90 Days, the next film that will be screened is Ava Duverney's critically acclaimed 13TH, a documentary that guides viewers throughout the history of the United States’ prison system, and its significance within the African American community. The documentary has received in total nine awards including the BAFTA Award for Best Documentary, MTV Movie Award for Best Documentary, and Critics Choice Documentary Award for Best Documentary.

In all, I would recommend everyone within the New York City area to attend on Saturday. The event will be filled with entertainment, education, and enlightenment. If you would to like to learn more about the event, visit ImageNation’s website athttp://www.imagenation.us or pick up a brochure at the RAW SPACE Gallery located on 2031 Adam Clayton Powell Blvd. (7th Ave. Between 121st and 122nd)
