Exhibition (Journey In Color): This exhibit is called a journey in color because as an artist it’s been a journey to learn the power of visuality and its transformative effects. I feel the color in a simple pencil, or a spray can, or the magic stroke of a brush, but from there it’s a crossing to witness pigmentation and color in endless forms. From nature, to culture and the human race, color has the ability to remind us of something beyond the norm. A journey in color is realizing that color has a voice of its own. This reveals itself to both the artist and to the viewer in an intimate and personal way. It’s amazing to explore the profundity of both sides’ perspectives when experiencing the compositions. In this information age, we all have the choice to choose art that has power, transmission of energy, and that can take us on a journey.
Artist Bio:
Atu Ram was born in the Bronx, NY. He grew up in Harlem, right by the current location of RAWSPACE. As a child he experienced the boom of cultural art in Harlem and as a young man he was exposed to the revolutionary art movement of graffiti. This instilled in him a desire to learn more about visuality and form. His motivation took him on a journey around the world, where he would draw inspiration from various masters and practice his many crafts. Atu has trained in Egypt, India, Jordan, Germany, The Caribbean, Guatemala, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica and Panama. Still, New York remained a focal location by which Atu was exposed to visual practices from around the world. Spirituality has been a big influence throughout Atu’s journey, as well as the growth of his art sensibilities. The varied exposure to different spiritual ideas and guides are all combined and reflected in his own style.

Bellatrix II: A Herstory Month Art Exhibition
Exploring Influence, Empowerment & Desire
In honor of Women’s History Month, Bellatrix (means warrior woman, and is a bright blue star in the Orion constellation) highlights the diverse roles that Black women play in society, exploring Black femininity through the spheres of influence, empowerment and desire. This exhibition features works by visual artist Jacqueline Bishop, Aleathia Brown, Tasha Douge', Lehna Huie, Koren Martin, Mathalicia Matarrita and Tavasha L. McDade. The month-long exhibition also includes theater performed by Antoina Badao, erotic literature by Tracy Kadangure, a panel on Aleathia Brown's Unveiled/Unlocked Movement, music listening parties, and a screening of the groundbreaking film, The Rape of Recy Taylor.
Inspired by the struggles of Black women ranging from activist Sojourner Truth to rapper Cardi B, the Bellatrix exhibit celebrates the Black Woman and her battle to defend her family, femininity, life, identity and desires. Through art, image, sound, film and word. This interactive group exhibition, acknowledges the war and celebrates the beauty of the warrior.
